1. What are the requirements to become IFPA Certified?

No prior fitness industry experience is required. Anyone, regardless of background, can attend the seminars and sit for the exam. To obtain IFPA personal trainer certification, you must pass the certification exam with at least an 80% score. It is recommended that you attend our 3-day seminar, which consists of 15 hours of training:

  • Day 1: 5 hours via online video conference

  • Day 2: 5 hours of in-person session at UBX Farrer Park

  • Day 3: 5 hours of in-person session at UBX Farrer Park

 

2. Is prior work experience required to take the certification exam?

No prior fitness industry experience is required. Anyone, regardless of background, can attend the seminars and sit for the exam.

3. What is the format and passing criteria of the IFPA CPT exam?

The IFPA exam comprises 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQ) with 4 options each. The passing mark is 80%. The exam is conducted online at home, proctored via a live video call with IFPA staff. A laptop or desktop will be required to take the test, and a separate device with a camera (e.g. smartphone) will be required for proctoring.

4. What is the passing rate for the IFPA CPT exam?

The general passing rate is around 70%. Success in the exam requires additional self-study beyond the 15 hours of seminar lessons provided.

5. What is the fee for retaking the IFPA CPT exam if I fail?

The retake fee will be S$150.

6. Are the seminars open to those who just want to learn about fitness and nutrition for personal use?

Yes. Anyone interested in physical training and nutrition is welcome to attend, even if they do not intend to get certified immediately.

7. How soon after attending the seminars must I take the certification exam?

You must sit for the exam within 6 months from the date you register. Once registered, you'll immediately gain access to IFPA’s e-learning platform to begin self-study, even before the seminars start.

8. Is CPR/First Aid certification mandatory for re-certification?

No, though we recommend that all personal trainers have a valid CPR/First Aid certification.

9. What are CEUs and how many do I need for re-certification?

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are credits you must accumulate to renew your certification every 2 years. You need 24 CEUs per renewal period (every 2 years). Alternatively, you may renew every year with 12 CEUs. IFPA accepts external CEUs (up to 6 per year), with various courses and workshops eligible for these credits.

10. How does the IFPA certification compare with other certifications like ACE or NCSF?

IFPA offers comprehensive coverage of practical training skills and unique content in sales and client management, providing strong value for money in Singapore. ACE is globally more recognized due to its longer history and earlier NCCA accreditation, but IFPA stands out by including essential sales training and offering more practical training hours at the best price in Singapore.
